Born on August 24, 1927, in Dubach, Louisiana, Clara grew up surrounded by love and support from her parents, Nellie Lewis and Robert Lewis. Her early years shaped her values and instilled a sense of compassion that would become a hallmark of her life.

Clara's dedication to her faith was evident through her involvement with the Beacon Hill First Baptist Church. She served as the first lady for over forty years and also held the position of Superintended of Sunday School for over four decades. Her love for music was another defining characteristic, often enjoying the works of Mark Morrison, Keith Sweat, Luther Vandross, and Patti LaBelle.

Clara's family was her greatest joy. She leaves behind a host of loved ones, including four children: Carmel Miller, Sharon McCraney (Dwayne), Beabe Akpojovwo, and Anthony Tait; adopted daughter Elzelda Lofton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Darius McCraney Jr., and Devon Houston McCraney; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and Godchildren.

Clara's legacy extends beyond her family, as she touched the lives of countless individuals through her work as a nurse. Her compassion and empathy inspired many to follow in her footsteps, making a profound impact on the healthcare community.
